1131: Follow the intuitive nudges

Sometimes we get a hankering to do something and have no idea why. In a world that values specialists over multi-passionates, it's so easy to dismiss these as another phase, but today I'm offering up an alternative perspective!

Good morning, Daily Peppers. And a very happy Tuesday to you. So yesterday's episode of The Daily Pep was around checking in with your goals and your dreams and seeing if they still align with what you want, even if they don't make sense on paper, and even if it feels more like an intuitive nudge. And today, I really wanna dive into that concept of intuitive nudges. So we are multi passionate around here. We are endlessly curious. There are so many rabbit holes that we want to go down and we can get lost learning about so many different things. Curiosity and learning are truly 2 of our biggest superpowers.

Now there are so many fabulous things that come with being multi passionate, but one of the shitty things that comes with it is the way that the world often sees us. We've all heard that, quote, jack of all trades, master of none. And we know that the world tends to like people who niche themselves down, put themselves in a box, and specialize in one thing. And we tend to not be those people, and we give ourselves a hard time about it. So while we're giving ourselves a hard time about it, we tend to beat ourselves up about having shiny object syndrome, about chasing new ideas. And I think one of the things that that can result in is us ignoring our intuitive nudges. Now your intuitive nudge is when you feel like you have to follow a thread or go down a rabbit hole or something, but you don't know why. It might be that it's not related to anything you're doing, you're not sure where it fits into your life right now but you feel really cool to do it.

Now for me right now my intuitive nudges are around really funky modern embroidery. I have a nudge from a long time ago that keeps emerging about spoken word poetry and I also have some hardcore nudges around collage and going back to polymer clay earrings. Now on the one hand it is really easy for me to dismiss those things as yet another thing to get involved in and yet another thing to do and I can easily rationalize them away by telling myself and reminding myself that I'm already pretty busy and my energy is already pretty low. And there would definitely be some truth in that. But also, if I completely just ignored it and just didn't give myself permission to go down those rabbit holes I think I would be missing out on some really magical things and things that could make my life a lot more fun and a lot more interesting. One of the things I often say to my coaching clients and also to 1 more banders is that when it comes to building a life you love, a lot of it looks like putting pieces of a puzzle together that nobody has given you the top of the lid for, so you don't know the image. And what that means is sometimes you genuinely don't know how a puzzle piece is gonna fit, but also like when you do a jigsaw puzzle, sometimes a whole load of pieces start coming together and you can actually start to work out the image and it gets quite exciting. And this is why I'm a huge fan of following your nudges because, a, I think our intuition has a lot to say to us and we have a lot of the answers inside us, and, b, we don't really know how much of an important piece that truly random idea could be.

It could be a massive piece of the puzzle. So today's episode is a rallying cry to follow those nudges even if they don't make sense and especially if they don't make sense. I know for me, it is only in the power of hindsight that I can realize, oh, wow. I wanted to do that thing. I had no idea why, but now I can see how it fits. And I'm also excited to see how things I've really loved in the past are gonna fit into my future. So here's to getting a little bit more comfortable with the fact that we can't see the image on top of the box yet, to having faith that there is an image and it will all come together, and to remembering that you can't do life wrong and knowing that there are no wrong paths. Have a good one. I will see you tomorrow. And as always, everything changes when you believe you matter.
