Episode transcript:

Good morning Daily Peppers and a very happy Monday to you. Now, one of the things that tends to unite us around here is our common values. We care about kindness, we care about community, we care a lot about creativity, and we also have a fairly similar perspective on the world. And one of the things that we understand is that life is nothing if not messy. We live in and we embrace . And if we can accept the fact that life is messy and extend that to ourselves, I think that can be a fabulous invitation to be a bit more kinder and also fairer and realistic towards ourselves. Here's the thing. If we already know that life is messy and sometimes it gets weird, it gets wonderful, sometimes it feels magical, and other times it makes no sense, then we should be able to afford ourselves some of the compassion and grace that we so readily give to other people.

If we agree that life is messy and weird and wonderful, then we get to be that too. Both in the sense that, yes, you have something to offer the world and also you will make mistakes and you will get things wrong and that is okay. And that is to be expected for very good reasons. We hold ourselves to such high expectations and I don't want us to compromise on our integrity, but there is some room there to add some self forgiveness. There are times that you will drop the ball. There are times when you will say something you wish you could take back. There are times when you will over commit and that might mean letting someone down. There will be times where you get things wrong and you make mistakes because you're rushing and everything feels frantic.

And I'll say it once, twice, ten times, many times here on the daily pep. That is a life thing, not a you thing. Think of it this way. Your dream shitter has the magnifier turned on and zoomed in by 100%. And chances are what you think is a fuck up is a small mistake that can be fixed. And in case you need to hear this on a Monday, you can fuck up without being a fuck up. And I think nbecause we are empaths and because many of us are highly sensitive, what we consider fuck ups, if we look at kind of the general population, they're small mistakes. Now I believe wholeheartedly in having your cake and eating it, but this is a bit of an exception.

We cannot accept that life is complicated and messy and weird shit will happen and also expect ourselves to be perfect and deliver perfection every single day. So I want to end with this. Perfection doesn't exist. And I know that you know this. I know I'm not telling you anything new. So let's go into this week and embrace our own uane. Embrace the messiness and accept that our best looks different on different days. Our mileage may vary, and that is to be expected. Happy Monday and I hope you find some unexpected joy today.
