1534: Give yourself a boost and remember your brave moments
We’re wrapping up this week on ebbs & flows on the Daily Pep with a reminder that you are resilient, strong and brave, (yes you!)
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Friday to you. So it has been ebbs and flows week on the Daily Pep, and I want to finish with a really practical one and with a question that I know you have answers to, even if it involves a bit of scratching your head and taking a couple of minutes. So we've been talking about the ups and downs of life and how things are rarely linear, how hard seasons and slow seasons are part of life, and you're not doing anything wrong. And today I really want us to look for the evidence that you can get through this. Now, when we go through a bit of a wobble when we're in one of those down parts, it can feel like all of the things we have done, our skills, our gifts, well, naming them and finding them and just thinking of the fact that we've done brave things before, well, those memories and those times can feel like they're completely inaccessible to us, but they are still there. The truth is, you have survived many things. You have survived many, many different cycles and seasons and iterations of times that definitely weren't linear, and you are more resourceful and resilient than you think you are. Now, don't get me wrong, I really wish we didn't all have to be so damn resourceful and resilient all the fucking time, but I do think it is helpful to go searching for those instances and remind ourselves.
So as you're listening to this, whether you are waking up, you're making your bed, you're walking the dog, you're in your car, or you're listening to a bunch of these in a row because you're in a bit of a slump, I want you to have a think about times when you've got through it when you didn't think you would. I want you to think of times that you look back on and think, fuck, that was brave. That did not feel brave at the time. I want you to briefly visit— we're not setting up camp and living there— times that maybe you're in a situation that gave you sleepless nights and you wondered how on earth it would work out, that you got through. And I want you to remember that you do have strength. For all of us around here, justice and equality really matter to us. They're core values of ours. And I've got this thing where I believe that, okay, if we're going to think about all the things that could go wrong, and if we're going to completely listen to our inner dreamshitter, it's only fair that we listen to the counter-evidence as well.
So have a think about that as you go about your day and your weekend. See if you can come to 3 or 5 things. If that feels impossible, that's okay. And definitely ask a friend because they will definitely remember your strength. And to wrap up this week's episode on ebbs and flows and holding ourselves during a dip, I want to bring up a quote that I've shared many a time here on The Daily Pep, which is, "Nothing in nature blooms all year long, so don't expect yourself to either." So here's to going into the weekend with more grace for yourself than you feel like you're allowed to give yourself. Here's to finding the evidence of the courageous things you have done. And here's to remembering that you are one brave motherfucker. I can't wait to be back with you on Sunday if you're in my email community, on Monday for a brand new episode of the Daily Pep.
And if you fancy really nerding out on what motivates you, the situations you thrive in, the situations that you might not thrive in, and how you can use your gifts and your superpowers and your values, then my Rebel Archetype Assessment is going to be so up your street, and it's also really helpful. I very much go big or go home, and the results page is really practical, really encouraging, and really helpful, and it might be the boost you need this weekend. You can go take that by going to therebelrousers.com/quiz, and I would love to know what rebel archetype you are. Have a good one, see you soon, and you've got this!
