1555: Acknowledge what you're doing right
As we head into a new week, we're going to set the record straight on our inner dreamsh*tters!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Monday and a very happy start to the new week. Now, if you got all of us in a room together and asked us what we were struggling with, the answers would be plentiful. For some of us, it is managing our time and energy. For others, it's getting going and just getting shit done. And I think many of us struggle with a very loud inner dreamshitter, because I know if again in that same room I asked us all what we're doing right, the answers wouldn't be quite as forthcoming, and it would take a while to get there. And there are so many reasons for that. That is not a you thing, it's an all of us thing. Because our brain has a negativity bias, it tries to keep us safe, and we tend to keep hold of any criticism, constructive or not, way longer and way tighter than any compliment.
So as you're going about your day today and maybe thinking about a fresh week and maybe a habit that you're working on or something you want to start, I want you to stop for a second and think about the things that you are doing right. Maybe a habit you built that you built ages ago and now take for granted. Maybe something you started and something you've done that you've completely forgotten about. And the areas of life that don't need huge drastic improvements. For all of us, probably in every aspect of our life, we have these little tiny improvements we can make. Sometimes big improvements or big areas of construction are needed, and that is perfectly normal. But look at everything that you have done. We're not so great at doing that.
It is so easy to look at the future and look at the gap between where we are right now and where we want to go and focus on just how massive that gap is. But rarely do we stop and look at just how far we've come. You might not be where you want to be. That's okay. I think that's also part of personal development. Sometimes the more connected we are with ourselves and the more we grow and the more we are into personal development, we see how far we'd really like to go, and that's okay too. I just think sometimes it is worth taking a bit of a pit stop and looking behind you and allowing yourself to maybe even feel a bit proud of where you've come from and let yourself motivate you and inspire you on the path ahead. So here's acknowledging all the things you have got right.
Here's to knowing that if you can't see them right now, it doesn't mean there are none. It maybe means that your inner dream shitter is louder than normal. And if that is the case, remember that your dream shitter spouts absolute bollocks and will say whatever lie it needs to, to keep you safe and to stop you from doing the scary thing. Truth is very rarely relevant. So I hope you have a fabulous start to your week. I hope you find some wonderful pockets of joy, and I can't wait to be back with you as always tomorrow morning. Have a good one.
