1244: What assumptions are you making?
To wrap up this week, we're diving into our (often unconscious) assumptions and what we are and what we aren't allowed to have, and giving ourselves permission!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Friday to you. So, earlier this week we were talking about a word of the year. And today's daily prep is inspired by a word that I chose for 2 years running, that I've actually decided to adapt as a word for my life. And it is experiment. And the reason I'm sharing this with you today is because I was thinking about all the massive assumptions that you make about our lives. I think most of us wish we have more time and more energy. But when we think of ways to create more of those things, we often dismiss our own ideas because we assume they're not gonna work, and we tend to write them off before we even begin. Our brains love problem solving, and often we think back to times when we've tried to solve it in the past, and maybe it hasn't worked.
And our built in confirmation bias and our built in negativity bias leads us to believe that we're just not gonna be able to solve the problem. So as we wrap up this week, I really invite you to think about the different assumptions you're making in your own life. When you look at the grand picture of your life and what's missing or what you desire, as you start to think about the things that maybe possibly could change that, try and think about what assumptions you're automatically jumping to without consciously knowing it. Or, and this is going a bit deeper, think about the things that you think you aren't allowed to change or the things that you feel guilty about wanting or not wanting, and the things that you just assume aren't in the cards for you. I'm making some changes with my business, whereby I'm getting really strategic about managing my energy. And while it's really uncomfortable, I'm really daring to put my needs more on the table. And what I didn't realize is that I've been operating with a shitload of assumptions that I've never really challenged. But sometimes the person we most need to seek permission from is ourselves, And I've made some changes.
They are very small tweaks, but they've helped me reclaim a lot of my time and energy. And the world truly hasn't ended. And to be honest, I would have made them before now had I even realized it was possible or if I'd have started challenging my assumptions earlier. So this is something to think about as you go into the weekend. What are things that you've kind of unconsciously decided you don't have permission to do? What are maybe some assumptions that you see as really black and white that might actually be holding you back? And if you do or take nothing else from this episode, ask yourself this. What do you need to give yourself permission for? And just get quiet and listen for the answer. And remember, there is no wrong answer. You know yourself better than you think you do, and just get curious.
So happy thinking. Happy Friday. It is wonderful to be back with you. And I can't wait to see you back here bright and early as always on Monday morning with a new episode of the daily pep. Or in your inbox on Sunday, if you're part of my letters of rebellion email community. 1242: A counter-intuitive way to build a life you love
In today's episode, I'm sharing an exercise that's really helpful if you struggle to verbalise what you want and where you want to go!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, daily peppers, and a very happy Wednesday, and a very happy hump day to you. A quick reminder before we get going that today is the day of my word of the year workshop. So if you would love an evening of inspiration, connection and clarity and to find your own personal compass for 2025, I would love to see you there. To find out more and book your spot head over to the links in the show notes and you can book your spot by going to the rebelrousers.com/wordoftheyear 2025. Now on to today's show. So around here we are all about building a life that we love. But I don't know about you, sometimes that can feel a bit intimidating. And sometimes it can be really hard to find out exactly what we want.
Our wants are usually buried under a lot of people's expectations, a lot of the things that we think we should want. And if we've been socialized as women, chances are we've pretty much been socialized to put ourselves last. So it's no wonder that asking ourselves what we want can be a loaded and a tricky question. So as we're starting to think about the year ahead and what we want, my recommendation is to start with what you don't want. Enormous power and enormous clarity can be found in reverse engineering because chances are it's easier to identify exactly what we don't want. And that can be a really, really good jumping off point. And if you wanna take this a step further, I've heard about people doing anti vision boards, which I think is really fun. And often in a funny way, it can actually be more helpful to figure out precisely what you don't want because that says so much about you.
And if you flip it, that gives you some really good clues on what is actually important to you and what might be a priority. It might also help you come up with things that you've not even considered. And for me, that's when shit gets exciting. So as you do and you're reflecting about this year and about life in general and building a life you love, while it sounds completely contradictory, start with imagining building a life you don't love and work backwards from there. And a quick permission slip before we wrap up in case you need it. It is okay to not want things and it is okay to not want the things that you think you should want or not want the things that everybody else seems to want. It only has to make sense to you. So have a think.
Have a good one. I will see you back here bright and early tomorrow morning or with you on Zoom this evening. And as always, remember that everything changes when you believe you matter.

1241: Embrace the detours!
Today I'm sharing a huge permission slip for all of us multi-passionates who have ever felt shamed for having our heads in the clouds or being flaky!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Tuesday to you. Now before I get into today's daily pep, which was inspired by a conversation I had with mister Meg. I wanted to give you a friendly heads up that our word of the year workshop is happening tomorrow and I can't fucking wait. Having a word of the year has been absolutely instrumental for me over the past couple of years as a way of really having a compass to come back to and as a way really of theming the year rather than having all of these arbitrary expectations that we just end up beating ourselves up about. I found so many ways to keep your word front and center and I can't wait to gather as a cozy community to help you find your word and also to share with you some really fun ways to keep it top of mind and make it a priority in your life. So if you fancy an evening or morning or afternoon depending on where you are in the world of inspiration, connection, and clarity, I'd love to see you there. It's happening 6:30 PM UK time on Wednesday, and you can go find out more and sign up by going to the link in the show notes or by going to therebelrousers.comforward/wordoftheyear2025.
Now on to today's show. So January tends to be a time when we have a lot of conversations about our plans, our goals, and the big picture, and it is definitely no different for us in our house. We were having one of those conversations today, and I realized that once again, I completely derailed us, and we got completely off topic by going down yet another rabbit hole. And as I was trying to get us back onto track, mister Meg looked at me and said, it's okay to go on detours. And I figured that is exactly what I needed to hear, and I've got a feeling it might be what you need to hear as well. So often, we get our sights so fixed on the end destination that we forget that there's a fuckload of magic that happens in the detours, that happens on the side quests, and they are often the source of so much unexpected delight. For so many of us multipassionates, we might have hang ups about getting lost in the planning and the dreaming. We might consider ourselves flaky, or we might have heard disparaging things from others.
So it's no wonder that we try and get ourselves on one linear path. But we also, deep down, know that that's not really the way the world works. It truly is in the rambling and the misadventures and the detours that lead us to some really fun unexpected shit that we would have completely missed out on otherwise. So today, I wanna give both you and me a fuck off size permission slip to really embrace the detours, to go the long way around if the view's better, and to be okay with not knowing the exact route that you want or need to take. Often, there are many, many different routes that'll take us there, And I say we get to experience some magic as well. So those are my thoughts for you today. Have a good one. Happy Tuesday.
And I can't wait to see you back here bright and early in your ears tomorrow morning or in person ish on Zoom tomorrow night for my word of the year workshop. Take care.

1240: 3 reminders for a rebellious New Year
Happy New Year! Today I’m sharing the pep talk I most need to hear at this time of the year.
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers. And a very happy Monday to you. And a very happy first episode of this new year. It is so good to be back. I've missed being here with you all, but I've also really enjoyed a fucking good break. And I hope you have too. So if you've been listening for a little while, you'll know that I'm not about the whole new year, new you bollocks. But I still get swept up in it every single year because I can't resist the idea of a fresh start and probably more importantly, a fresh new notebook.
So today, I thought I would share with you the pep talk that I most need to hear at this time of the year because I have a feeling a lot of us need to hear it. So first things first, you do not have to be a whole brand new person. There might be different things you wanna change. There may be a small, a little, a huge gap between where you are now and where you wanna go, but you do not have to burn everything down to get there. Sometimes the biggest changes come from the smallest tweaks, and you bring with you so many invaluable and also absolutely unique experiences, skills, and strengths. And you're much better on the journey with them than without them. So let's say a huge fuck off to having to become some brand new version of you. It is not necessary.
Second, let's just use January as a practice month. January is probably one of the worst times of the year to start loads of new things and expect ourselves to be really fucking consistent and have all the energy and the enthusiasm for things. For those of us in the northern hemisphere, we are still firmly in the depths of winter, and we get to honor how we feel and what our body needs. And as much as I wish this wasn't true, the minute the calendar changes to January, it doesn't mean that we get this whole new burst of energy. Use January as a bit of a warm up. And as my friend Megan Gallant loves to say, February is the new January. And finally, it's okay if you don't know yet what you want out of this year. You don't have to have all the answers right now and in fact some of the best years are the years where the answers just tend to unfold themselves.
But if you do wanna choose a bit of a theme for the year and have some time to really reflect and get intentional about 2025, my annual word of the year workshop is happening this Wednesday, and it is gonna be a really lovely way to start the new year with a compassionate bang minus all the pressure and the bullshit. You can find out more by heading to the link in the show notes or heading over to the rebel rousers.comforward/ wordoftheyear 2025. So I am raising my mark to each and every one of you to cheer you on and to remind you that your self worth absolutely does not depend on what you do or don't do this year. As I say a lot around here, everything changes when you believe you matter. And if the only and I'm using air quotes there. If the only thing you do this year is take tiny actions to show yourself and remind yourself that you matter, then you'll go a long fucking way. I hope you have a fabulous start to your week. I've missed you.
It is so good to be back, and I can't wait to be back with you bright and early tomorrow morning. Take care my loves.

1239: And that's a wrap for the year!
I’m signing off for the festive period, and I just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you for being here, and I’m excited to be back in January!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers. And a very happy Friday to you. This is my last episode of this year. So for today's episode, I just really wanna thank you for being here. Thank you for being part of the Daily PEP. And for trusting me to be the one that you start your mornings with. Or you come to when you need a bit of a pick me up. I find that most people listen to the daily pep in one of 2 ways.
Either to start their mornings and a lot of people have got their Alexa or their devices queued up, or people tend to listen to a whole bunch of episodes in one go when they need to get themselves out of a rut or they need a bit of pep in their step. Now the reason I'm saying this, a, is because, honestly, I'm truly honored, but, b, to remind you that you absolutely are not alone. Every time you listen to the daily pep, know that you are in the company of some absolutely fabulous people who really get what it is to do life differently, whether they want to or not, who get what it takes to show up every day to build a life you love, and not just to survive, but thrive in a world where we often feel like a square peg in a round hole. It can be all too easy to look around the world and look at how much division there is, and it often feels like we're going to hell in a handbasket. But please trust me that your people are out there, and together, we are all doing our own thing in our own way. And we are making the world a brighter place. And the world is actually quite a lot more of a kinder place than maybe sometimes you feel it is. Some of you might not know that I've got another podcast called The Couragemakers podcast, which has been dormant for a little while now.
But the main tagline of that show is building a life you love takes a shitload of courage, but you don't have to do it alone. And I wanna say thank you for letting me be part of your journey. You most certainly are not alone. And in case you need to hear it one more time, everything changes when you believe you matter. I really look forward to being back with you in the new year for some new episodes. Take care of yourself, do this season your own damn way, and I hope you find a fuckload of unexpected joy along the way. See you soon.

1221: Nothing in nature blooms all year round
Today we’re doubling down on yesterday’s message on not expecting ourself to finish the year strong.
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Tuesday to you. So one of the quotes that I love to share the most around here is that one where it says, nothing in nature blooms all year round, so don't expect yourself to either. And it's one that I come back to time and time again because, my goodness, we are so good at piling the pressure on and always expecting ourselves to be doing new things and thriving and working hard. And we can easily forget that that isn't our normal default mode. We cannot expect ourselves to be on 100% of the time. So I share that today as a reminder. If you are feeling fresh out of fucks for the rest of the year, you're feeling really tired, or you wish you could just hibernate. Now I know we don't have that option, but we do have the option not to do it all.
It is only natural to get to this part of the year and feel pretty fucking exhausted. I think we'd all agree that it has been a year. And when you take a big picture view of everything that's happened this year, it's no surprise that we're exhausted, yet we can give ourselves such a hard time about it. So my question for you today is this. What if you made peace with the fact that you've done all the big things this year and that the rest of this year is for coasting and doing what you have to do. In yesterday's episode, I shared that fabulous Jane Carrington quote about not having to end the year strong. And I know today, I'm essentially just double downing on what I said yesterday, but it's because we need to hear it. We are so damn hard on ourselves.
We have such high expectations of ourselves. But I just wanna give you a huge permission slip to take your foot off the gas, Know that you've done enough. Know that your self worth is not on the line between here and January, and that you've done a pretty fucking good job this year. I am taking my own advice and doing the bare minimum. I'm meeting myself where I'm at, which can be really hard and try not to judge myself. And I'm taking the pressure off myself to bloom, and it is really helping. So that is my food for thought for you today. And just a friendly reminder that doors are still open for my group coaching program, One Woman Band Club.
It is a fabulous way of seriously getting shit done and doing it in a really compassionate way, making a whole bunch of new friends along the way. Spots are over halfway filled. So if you've been meaning to check it out or if you've been meaning to join, I recommend doing that soon. And you can find out more by going to the rebelrouses.com/1womanband. And if you're intrigued but not quite sure or you're on the fence, I'd love to have a chat. And you can book a free thirty minute discovery call via the link in the show notes or scrolling down to the bottom of the FAQs on the sales page. Here's to intentionally deciding not to bloom. Here's to taking the pressure off, and here's to us exactly as we are.
